Introduction
Tourism Confederation of Tanzania (TCT) is the umbrella organization representing the private business sector (Sub-Sector Associations) involved in travel and tourism industry in Tanzania. It is the voice of the tourism industry. The apex body was formed in June 2000 and launched on March 23, 2001 at Courtyard Hotel by Hon. Zakia Hamdani Meghji, Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism.
TCT established a full time Executive Office in March 2002.
TCT works to ensure that through representation at the national level, appropriate macro policies and strategies are adopted for developing and maintaining an environment in which international and domestic tourism will prosper and the business sector will be able to achieve successful growth and development while protecting Tanzania’s natural and cultural heritage.

In partnership with the public sector (Government) and through
the various public/private partnership structures, build

Objectives
Our key objectives are:
- Facilitate, encourage and assist members in the development of legal and responsible tourism in Tanzania with due consideration of the overall development of the people and the conservation of their natural resource, environment and the protection of their cultural values.
- Objectively represent the various members of TCT as a collective voice for the tourism industry.
- Strengthen and support objectives of the member tourism associations.
- Act as a platform for generation and exchange of ideas by members with the objective of improving the status of the travel & tourism industry in Tanzania.
- Create opportunities for open dialogue with Government and other relevant organizations with the view of identifying critical issues besetting the travel & tourism industry and their possible remedies.
- Advise the Government on tourism issues relating to fiscal, legislative, regulations regarding standards, environmental, infrastructure, taxation, institutional development and strengthening favourable to sustainable tourism business as defined by the National Tourism Policy, and other legal instruments related to the tourism industry.
- Be actively involved in tourism policy formulation, decision making and implementation as may be demanded from time to time.
- Facilitate and uphold transparency within the travel & tourism industry by establishing and enforcing a high ethical code of conduct and standards within the industry.

- Intra-Africa Travel & Tourism Association (ITTA)
- Tanzania Air Operators Association (TAOA)
- Tanzania Hunting Operators Association (TAHOA)
- Tanzania Professional Hunters Association (TPHA)
- Tanzania Tour Guides Association (TTGA)
- Zanzibar Tourism Investors Association (ZATI)
Membership
There are three kinds of Memberships with TCT.
- Ordinary Membership: This is open
to tourism associations and organisations representing
commercial travel and tourism companies that are legally
registered in Tanzania.
- Associate Membership: This is open
to organisations and establishments directly supported
or associated with travel and tourism industry and registered
in Tanzania.
- Affiliate Membership: This is organisations
such as NGOs, companies and institutions (local or foreign)
indirectly supporting and or linked to the tourism industry.
TCT welcomes more Members to join. It
is the goal of TCT to ensure that all groupings, operators
dealing with or are closely linked with the tourism industry
are facilitated to join and become members.

Benefits for Being a Member of TCT
Through TCT the private business sector are and
will continue to enjoy the following benefits:
- Ensure the sector is comprehensively, cohesively and
effectively represented at the national level.
- In partnership with the public sector develop macro
strategies for the development and maintenance of an
environment in which tourism both international and
domestic will prosper. This partnership “public-private”
is very vital.
- Through the various Public Committees & Representation
that TCT is actively involved in, Members are kept informed
with developments that are taking place in the industry.
With this information, Members are able to further develop
their own future plans.
Achievements
Since establishment of an Executive Office in March 2002,
TCT has achieved notable successes:
- Successfully publishes the annual Tourism Trade Directory
2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007.
- Has successfully organized national fora to encourage
local investment in the tourism industry in September
2002; a Workshop to promote the Development of Tourism
in the Southern Circuit, September 2005; a Workshop
to Promote Tourism in the City of Dar es Salaam, June
2006 etc.
- Organizes each year the Tourism Holiday Fair in Dar
es Salaam in order to promote domestic tourism (Karibu
Holiday Fair) tourism week?
- Continues to represent the business sector on a number
of key business, advisory, coordination and facilitation
organs that embody the public/private partnership arrangement:
- membership of the Tanzania Private Sector Foundation
(TPSF),
- representation on the Tanzania National Business
Council (TNBC),
- representation on the Tourism Facilitation Committee
(TFC),
- representation on the Travel and Trade Fair Committee
(TTFC),
- representation on the Vocational and Education Training
Authority (VETA),
- on the Advisory Board of the National College of
Tourism,
- on the advisory Board of Dar es Salaam Tourism Advisory
Council (DTAC) .
